The Big Mac Fly Fishers is a very active sports club with members ranging from novice to expert. It also helps that Ogallala is one of the premier trout fisheries in the whole country, thanks to management by the Nebraska Game and Parks. Many members are certified fishing instructors and donate hundreds of hours a year working with youth and others to enjoy all kinds of fishing.
A great advantage of joining the club is sharing the wealth of experience and secrets that enable one to acquire fish catching ability in a short time, compared to the years it takes to learn on your own. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at the Game and Parks Visitors Center at the lake at 6 pm, followed by fly-tying, video presentations, fishing reports or other items of interest.
A popular event is a fish fry a couple times a year. Your family membership of $25.00 covers spouse and children under 18 years of age. This alone is worth more than the price of membership.
Members annually demonstrate fly-tying for Cabelas, help a vacation bible school fishing outing for 80-100 kids, donate fly fishing excursions for local charities, host fishing outings for scouts and similar groups, sponsor a popular kids fishing tournament, work with the Nebraska Walleye Association youth project and help with numerous other events which benefit youth and outdoor activities unique to our community.
Considering all the things the Big Mac Sports Club is doing a membership is a great investment even if you do not hunt or fish. If you are a hunter or fisherman or like fish frys a membership is an even greater bargain.
